Rhyme Zone Poem

BALENCESTO…

A dream of many
Achieving in school then in life
It wouldn’t cost a penny
Get it together, more adequate than a table knife
Once you reached these expectations
Keep your mind set
Take initiative with no invitations
Be on the court meet the ball, meet the net

Stay off your toes learn the basics
Jump stop, pump fake, bank shot
WAIT!, shoes untied, lace it
In basketball I get so low it’s like I’m always in a squat
Don’t stop just because the season is over
Keep your head up have confidence
Let it be skill unlike a lucky four-leaf clover
Your ball is your money; your ball is your allowance

Balencesto means basketball
In Spanish so get it straight
Like your shot because your life is a three don’t air ball
But if you miss, do it again like a clean slate

Now you have completed your goals within your teenage years
Stayed out of trouble well for the most part
Avoiding temptation from your piers
Have respect with a strong heart
Now it’s time to move on with a ready attitude
Go to college and do your best
Better say thanks to your coach, show some gratitude
And don’t forget to cheer up the guests

You now realize you are really good
Better take advantage and excel
Like it’s time to move away from your hood
Say your goodbyes say farewell
You are in Pro it’s time to step up even more as a player
But not by yourself with your new team
Even though I shoot from far they call me the downtown mayor
Then, you wake up from your dream
In your bunk bed with your pajamas on
Now motivated, woke up, and read for thirty minutes
Can’t wait to play basketball so I run to the lawn
Having the Cavs on your mind and ask your teacher “where’s an atlas?”

The rhyme scheme is ABABCDCDEFEFGHGH....
