The narrator and character in "Marigolds" is Lizabeth. Lizabeth has matured as she grew older. She tells of her childhood life and how she has learned from dumb mistakes but great experiences. Lizabeth is very sympathetic and is shown when in the book states, "And I too have planted marigolds." She was the leader of her friends which shows popularity and how she presents herself. This character also had many internal problems and they were expressed when she decided to smash all of Ms. Lottie's Marigolds. Also, the way she reacted showed her regret and her discipline. Lizabeth grew older and fonder of other people's feelings and most likely grew her own marigolds for Ms. Lottie.
