Free Write [4/20]

Over the weekend I went to this event. In this event there were many group dancers which were very good and performed for an average audience. The groups danced very well and some performers even sang. The dance team I was on also performed and it inspired me to start dancing again. Now when I go to my classes every Monday I try my hardest. Then this morning I was texting Marcus. He was talking to me like I was his girlfriend or something so I freaked out and stopped. I did this because I am smarter than to fall for any online predators for example Chester the molester or Marcus Bradshaw.

Elena. A girl. Ninth grade. Dallas, Texas. In 1963. These words so plain and so dull, opposed to her struggling life. Elena went to a school named Public School 13. Which seems very boring itself due to its simple name. Elena got picked on and teased a lot at her school because of how slow her body was maturing. Most of the students there were mean and rude, and Elena didn't care much for them. All except for one boy named Eugene. Eugene was Elena's "only source of beauty and light for her that school year." Eugene was also young, and he lived next door to Elena. Elena could see in their kitchen because her fire place was literally suspended over their backyard. Elena lives in the building named El Building. It was a complex for low income families. On the other hand Eugene’s house (neighbor to Elena) was two stories and it was the only house on the block that had a yard and trees. Elena tried hard to talk to him and they finally did on the walk back to their houses. Then after a while they started walking home every day together. Elena was getting tired of just staring into his house and she started being curious about it. She’s curious about what the other rooms looked like, or what it felt like to sit at his dinner table. So one day Eugene asked on the 22nd of November if she can go over. That day at school and she was at P.E. the teacher told them all to line up. The P.E. teacher was crying and he told his students that the president was dead. The kids didn’t take it seriously so he practically cussed them out and sent them home. Elena didn’t know how to feel about the president because she had her own worries. The same day the president died was the same day Elena was supposed to go over to Eugene’s house. To Americans this day was important because one of their favorite presidents was assassinated. The whole city was silent and shocked. Elena decided to still go over to study and his mom answered the door. She told Elena that Eugene didn’t want to study with her so she should just go home. Elena stood there for a little then went back to her apartment to find her mom gone. She went to sleep that night crying but not for the president, but for Eugene. On this day of history, November 22nd 1963, Elena got rejected by Eugene’s mom and the President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

Friday Homework [4/9/10]

These days some kids have hard times making smart decisions. In this case parents should help them. One main dumb decision that needs to be focused on is the failure to ignore online predators. Parents need to step up and talk to their children about online predator safety. Parents have to spend time with their children and they have to become familiar with their children’s online habits. A smart tip would also be to put a computer in the house that’s screen is visible to public. Also, a parent should question their child about any scary experiences online to be informed of any events. A parent should make sure they have their children’s password to help avoid any predators. Then they should review their accounts to review the child’s activities including offline electronics. Make sure the kid knows the standard rules of being on the computer even if he/she is at their friend’s house. Another tip is for parents to closely supervise any risky online activities such as chat rooms. File sharing, and webcams. One last tip would be to report any suspected child predators to the appropriate law enforcement organization. These safety tips will help a kid and maybe even save them from the danger of an online predator.

Warm Up [4/5/10]

On Easter Sunday, April the 4th my friend's family and I went to downtown San Diego to celebrate Easter. We decided to eat before we went to church so; we went to this nice seafood restaurant. We were eating and all of a sudden I felt dizzy, but then I realized it wasn't me. It was an earthquake. A baby started crying and many women were scared. It felt as if I was on a swing or a boat smoothly rocking back and forth. This happened around 3:45 and after at 5:15 I went to church and we all prayed for safety.

3/31/10 Homework

If your friend confides in you that he or she is thinking about meeting in person with anyone he or she first “met” online, what would you tell him or her?

If my friend told me that she/he was supposed to meet up with this person she met online then my first response would be to get upset. After I realize why she wants to meet the person face to face instead of just talking to him online then I will appropriately send her to an adult who can specifically help him/her with that problem. I would also try my hardest to convince my friend not to meet up with a stranger because nobody knows what can happen.
